How to Remove Paint From Glass Without Razor

What we cannot avoid, we must redress. The sight of paint on a glass window brings this adage to mind. No matter how many tapes we use to line the wall trim with painter's tape, most of us would invariably end up with paint streak on the windows.

Even if you're extremely careful, the occasional drip-drip, which is inevitable during a paint job, would end up making its presence felt on the glass. And since that mark of paint will have dried by the time you're finished with your room's redecoration, you won't be able to wipe it off with a cloth and water.

However, that doesn't mean that you'd have to tolerate its presence forever. Act on the below-mentioned tips to restore the original, transparent look of your windows.

#1 Way: To Remove Paint From Glass

Follow these steps to remove paint from the window:

Step 1:

You'd need the following items to remove paint from the window using white vinegar:

• White vinegar (300 mL)
• Dish soap ( 15 mL)
• Bucket of warm water
• Rag and rubber gloves
• Elbow grease
• New razor blade

Step 2:

Measure 240 mL of white vinegar and pour it into a glass cup. Then microwave the container for 30 to 60 seconds (or until the white vinegar starts boiling).

Step 3:

Put on rubber gloves and dip a rag into the white vinegar. Then use the rag to scrub the paint on the window. Doing this won't remove the paint but it would soften it up, which is necessary for the success of the upcoming steps.

Step 4:

Add 15 mL of dish soap into an empty bucket. Pour bucket-full of warm water on top. You're adding warm water in after the soap so that the latter can develop suds.

Step 5:

Once again put on rubber gloves and soak a dry rag into the bucket. You might want to do this immediately after you've scraped the window paint with white vinegar. As this would not allow the paint to dry and make it easy for you to get it really saturated.

Step 6:

Using a razor blade at a 45* angle, scrape the paint. Avoid scraping back and forth quickly as it might end up scratching the glass. Remoisten the paint if you feel it has dried.

Step 7:

Spray glass cleaner on the window and use a dry microfiber cloth to wipe down the paint. Provided you've done all the previous steps as intended, you should be able to quickly get rid of all the vinegar, soap and (of course) paint flakes.

#2 Way: How To Remove Paint From Window Frame

Follow these steps to remove paint from the window using the paint stripper:

Step 1:

Gather the following supplies to implement this method:

• Clean tarp
• Respirator
• Rubber gloves and safety glasses
• Bucket and dry rag
• Paint stripper solvent and paintbrush
• Scraper and wire brush
• Manual sander

Step 2:

Remove handles, nails, screws, hinges or any hardware that might be on the surface of the window. Put the hardware aside after taking it off.

Step 3:

Lay a clean tarp beneath the window. Put on a pair of rubber gloves, safety glasses and a respirator. If your room has other windows, open them. If not, turn on the fan. You'd be working with a chemical, so you don't want the air to get too stagnant.

Step 4:

Open the packet of the solvent-based stripper and pour the substance into a clean bucket. The bucket should be big enough not to be overwhelmed by the volume of the stripper when you dip a dry rag or paintbrush into it.

Step 5:

Dip the paintbrush into the bucket and start painting your window. Start on one side, preferably one of the sides (as they're easy to paint) and then keep on painting until you've painted the entire thing. Once you have saturated the whole surface, let it soak the paint for about 30 minutes.

Step 6:

Use the combination of paint scraper (first) and wire brush (later) to remove as much paint as possible. Don't try to force things or else you might end up damaging the wood. Also, use paint scraper at first and only after you've stripped off the first few layers of the paint should you turn to the wire brush to remove paint from depressions and creases.

Step 7:

Once the paint has been removed, wipe the surface clean using a wet rag. If you can still see some flecks of paint, remove them using a manual sander with 220-grit sandpaper. Once you're done, reassemble all the hardware that you removed in the first step.

#3 Way: Removing Paint From Metal Windows

Follow these steps to remove paint from metal windows:

Step 1:

Gather the following supplies:

• Tarp
• Dry rag
• Disposable paintbrush
• Bucket
• Safety gear (rubber gloves, respirator, goggles)
• Chemical paint stripper
• Nylon brush
• Mineral spirit

Step 2:

Follow the instructions given in the 2^nd and 3^rd steps of the previous method.

Step 3:

Open the bottle of the chemical paint stripper and pour the liquid into a clean bucket. Then dip a disposable paintbrush into the bucket, and use it to saturate the entire surface of the window with the stripper. After applying 2 to 3 coats, let the metal surface soak the stripper for 20 to 30 minutes.

Step 4:

After giving the metal surface almost half-an-hour to soak the stripper, scrape away the paint using a nylon brush. Use a wire brush to remove paint from depressions and crevices.

Step 5:

Dampen a clean rag with a few drops of metal spirit. Then use the moisten parts of the cloth to wipe away the remaining flecks of paint.

Step 6:

Rinse the metal window using warm water. After that, take a dry microfiber cloth to remove all the water droplets from the metal surface. Once you've done that, paint your metal window any way you want.
